New Books are like Crack

Amazon gift cards could only mean one thing, couldn't it? NEW "School" books!! I don't religiously follow Charlotte Mason or Ambleside Online but I do look to the recommended reading lists and books suggestions in order to get ideas for what we can read around here. I choose only the books that sound like something we would enjoy. These are books I've been wanting to get for our reading pleasure for about a year now but didn't have the funds. As it turned out, we wouldn't have had a chance to even look at them until now anyway so, as always, God provided the books right on time. We are committed to finishing up a couple of treasuries and Winnie-the-Pooh... but after that... it's New book time! wooo Hoo. ParTAy!!

I chose this gorgeous Pippi Longstocking volume and our very first American Girl set.
We will be reading about Julie first. I picked her because her best friend's name is Ivy (Ronin's middle name), her story came highly recommended, and her story starts in 1974 which goes along nicely with "The Wonder Years" which we have been watching a lot of lately.

Before Hunter was sick, we listened to a Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle audio book. We loved it.
So I got a few of those books!

These were all books from the Ambleside Online curriculum. I love all of them and I was excited to have the recommendation.

Traded in ALL of my other children's Bible books (and there were quite a few) and instead we are going to focus on these three. All three have been either suggested to me or are extremely popular and I'm already totally in love with each of them. Bible time stressed me out because we had so many book options, none of which were very popular around these parts. It's exciting to have only three books to deal with now. And I love all three of them!

Took a load of books to trade and came home with these: The Wouldbegoods and the Book of Dragons by E. Nesbit, Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary, The Wind in the Willows, Mr. Poppers Penguins, and the first book in the Betsy Tacy series (as per a recommendation that I received from a friend on Facebook).

I am so excited about all of these new books and I cannot wait to delve into them. I've never read any of these before (except for maybe the Ramona book) and I'm really looking forward to learning right alongside my kiddos!

Did you get any exciting new books recently? What is on the top of your book wish list?

  2. I love the choices in books you made. They are all very interesting books! A huge recommendation to you would be if you have a chance to check your library for the Mokie and Bik book by Wendy Orr...We read it in one day...Its a chapter book about twins who live on a boat, has great pictures and some interesting things happen to the twins! If you love amazon, they have the book for $12 the last time I checked! I hope your all doing well...I am keeping your family in my prayers. Blessings...

  6. I LOVE your selection. I LOVE books. I am excited for you. Fun stuff! That Voss Bible is a great one to read aloud and for older readers to read like a novel. I'll have to check out some of your others I am not as familiar with.
