A celebration of unschooling

I have officially filled out the papers to enroll my middle child in homeschool. That was hard to accept. But luckily we have the privilege of keeping our children at home for their education and we don't have to send our kids to school every day. We have decided to exercise our freedom by signing Hunter up for baseball and Ronin for gymnastics instead of continuing to do co-op this next year because we know realistically that these activities are better for them ultimately. On this day we celebrated with some new "schoolish" materials, personal cards written to them, and a few just for fun things.
Hunter dividing the lollipops and root beer candies evenly.

Ripping into the Silly Bandz.

After the gifts and candy fest, we went over to Papa and Mama Carollyn's house to continue our celebration with swimming, homemade pizza, carrot cake, special sodas, and strawberries with cream. Despite feeling yucky, little Draykie got in on the fun for a few minutes.

I feel like the beginning of another school year is so exciting and filled with such possibilities. On the agenda is: enjoying some activities at the community center, field trips to the Wilderness Station, spending time with these friends and these friends (if the universe will let us as we've been trying to get together for weeks now) attending homeschool story time at the Laverne Library...
there are so many exciting things to do in this area. I'm working hard on trying to focus my energies towards spending time with the right types of people in the right types of environment, for me and my children. Looking forward to seeing how this effort turns out.
