Artsy Mamas Newsletter

Yahoo Group:
Artsy Mamas has started another online group. Lots of people have signed on and are voicing their opinions on what they’d like to see within the organization. It’s a great way to stay connected. Head over and join today: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/artsy_mamas/
Please be sure to introduce yourself!

Art date:
The Artsy Mamas original “art date” has returned and is going to be better than ever. Open to all children and their mothers (or grandmothers, aunts, uncles, older sisters, etc), Artsy Mamas will be hosting a monthly art date on the last Monday of each month at 10:00am. What’s an “art date” you ask? Well, it’s a play date that involves creating art!

Monday, September 28th, 10:00am
Join us at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro. We will meet under the big pavilion and then head into the wooded area attached in order to hunt for natural materials to use for some painting. Bring your imaginations and your lunch for a picnic once we’ve finished our artistic endeavors. Artsy Mamas will provide watercolor paper, markers, crayons, etc.

Greenway Art festival, Saturday, September 19th
http://www.ci.murfreesboro.tn.us/default.aspx?ekmenu=126&id=3042
Artsy Mamas and Golden House Studio will have a table at the Greenway Art Festival. Drop by to say hi, pick up some information about our organization and make some art with your kids!

Zine workshop
Linebaugh Library and Artsy Mamas will present a zine workshop for parents ages
18 & up on Sept. 12, 9 a.m. - noon. Join us for a free adventure in writing,
drawing, and collage -- no experience required! During this free workshop, we'll
learn about zines, see some examples, talk about how to make a zine, and work
together to make a collaborative zine. At the end of the workshop, each
participant will have a copy of the finished zine to take home with them, and a
copy will be added to the Linebaugh Library's zine collection. Advance
registration required. To register or for more information, please email
zines@linebaugh.org or call 615-893-4131, ext. 121.

Recycled gift making workshop in Nashville
Saturday, November 14th from 1-5pm
Edmundson Pike Branch Library
Pre-registration is required, $5.00/person
Money can be sent via paypal (artsypaypal@gmail.com) or via old fashioned snail mail (check or cash will be fine)
PO Box 332965, Murfreesboro, TN 37133

Mark your calendars mamas for what will be, quite possibly, the coolest Artsy Mamas workshop yet! Create a "shemic" piece of art, free standing tree and ornament all out of recycled materials. Also see examples and learn tips on other recycled creations that you can make by recycling everyday household items. This will be taught by Jodi Reeves from The Creative JAR. www.thecreativjar.blogspot.com. Jodi has asked that all people who plan to participate start to collect the following items to be used in the project: at least 2 cereal boxes for each person - or packaging similar in size
meat trays or egg cartons - works great for paint trays - 1 for each person
recycled papers - any scrap papers, recycle magazine papers with cool colors or patterns, cool packaging, old telephone books, newspapers, paint chips etc
*Participants will be asked to pay a five dollar fee to cover the cost of renting the space and the materials we will have to provide. Everyone is encouraged to bring a snack and drink since the workshop will last 4 hours.

  1. I'm so glad I stumbled onto your blog. I found you from looking at The Magic Onions' blog. I saw that you guys were swap partners so I came to check out what they sent you. I live in Clarksville. My cousin lives in Murfreesboro. My husband and I LOVE the jazz festival that your town has every year! The "shemic" workshop looks interesting. I'm off to explore the rest of your blog! ;-)
